Vioxx is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug which was used to treat painful conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and menstrual pain.
It was prescribed from 1999 until 2004 when its manufacturers, Merck & Co voluntarily withdrew it from the global market.
The withdrawal of Vioxx was made after a study suggested that people taking the drug were more likely to suffer from cardiovascular problems such as heart attacks or strokes.
It has now been recognised that Vioxx has caused a number of people harm and a jury in Texas found that the drug had actually contributed to the death of one man. Merck & Co were ordered to pay $253m damages.
If you have been injured by Vioxx or any other medicine or medical device, you may be able to make a personal injury claim for compensation.
