MMR

What is MMR?

MMR is the term most commonly used to describe the Measles Mumps and Rubella vaccine. The vaccine is given to children in the UK to protect them from:

Measles, which can cause pneumonia, fits, encephalitis (infection of the brain) and brain abnormality.

Mumps, which can cause meningitis / encephalitis, deafness and damage to the testicles which can lead to sterility in males.

Rubella, which is fairly harmless to children but can cause blindness, deafness and brain damage to babies if contracted by the mother during pregnancy.

Injuries caused by MMR?

In 1998 a report was published which suggested a link between the MMR vaccine and cases of autism and bowel disease.

Since this time, parents have been concerned that certain medical problems their children have suffered from have been caused by the MMR vaccine, although no absolute evidence has been found yet.
