Shiley Incorporated, which is a subsidiary of Pfizer Incorporated, manufactured a replacement heart valve called the Björk-Shiley Convexo Concave (BSCC), which was implanted in patients between 1979 and 1986.
Unfortunately, it was found out after 7 years of the valve first being used that a certain part of this particular valve was prone to fracturing. This could lead to valve failure and possibly sudden death. The manufacturers of the valve voluntarily withdrew it from the market.
If you have been injured or contracted an illness or disease as a result of a medicine, prescribed drug or medical device, such as a Shiley heart valve, you may be entitled to make a personal injury claim for compensation.
