Personal Injury Compensation Claims relating to Emphysema

How is Emphysema Contracted?

The most common cause of emphysema is smoking; however it can also be caused by prolonged exposure to dusty environments. For example, a lot of men who were employed within the mining industry in the United Kingdom contracted emphysema due to their working conditions.

Symptoms of Emphysema

Emphysema is a condition which will worsen over time and for which, unfortunately, there is no cure. The inhaled dust settles in the lungs and damages them.

When the lungs are damaged, it is difficult for the sufferer to breathe properly, the impact is that their body suffers from a lack of oxygen.

Initially the symptoms of emphysema may be breathlessness, fatigue or a persistent cough; however over time, this can progress to a stage where the sufferer is housebound and dependent upon oxygen apparatus.
