What is Welder’s Lung?

Information about Siderosis of the lung

Welder’s Lung (or Siderosis of the lung) is an occupational illness. People employed within the metalworking industry are most at risk from this condition. It is one of a group of lung diseases known as pneumoconiosis. These diseases are all caused by the inhalation of dust (of various kinds) which is retained in the lungs. In the case of Welder’s Lung, the disease results from the inhalation of iron particles. For example, if a welder is dealing with metals containing iron, than he or she might breathe in these particles which are often emitted in the welding rod fumes.

If you have been diagnosed with Welder's Lung or Siderosis of the Lung you may be entitled to make a claim for compensation.  For more information contact us on 08000 224 224.

The Symptoms of Welders Lung

Health problems associated with Siderosis of the Lung

Fortunately, in the case of Welder’s Lung, apart from shadows on the lung shown by x-rays, it is thought that the condition is generally benign (it causes few symptoms) so lung function is not usually affected. However, it is possible that, in some cases, the condition may cause breathing problems and other respiratory symptoms.

If you have been diagnosed with Siderosis of the Lung or Welder's Lung you may be able to claim compensation.  Complete one of our online compensation claim forms to find out if we can help you with a claim for compensation on a cost-free basis.
