Widow in desperate attempt to track down witnesses who worked at Brush following husband’s death from mesothelioma

Lawyers acting for the widow of a former fitter at Brush in Loughborough are in a desperate attempt to trace his former co-workers following his tragic death from the asbestos cancer mesothelioma in April 2005.

Edward Webster, formerly of Oakham, Leicestershire, was 66 years old when he died. He was apprenticed to Brush from 1957 until about 1962. He then went into the army, rejoining Brush in or about 1963 until 1968. In his early days he worked on a job known as “Outside Service”. His job was to fit equipment made at Brush, which meant that he was sent to fit generators, valves and other equipment in various locations. Before his death he recalled attending power stations and large factories, and he often worked in boiler rooms where asbestos lagged pipes were situated. The pipes often had 2-3 inches of dust on them and he couldn’t help inhaling the dust as went about his work.

Justice for victims of mesothelioma

His widow Elizabeth explains: "My life will never be the same. Ed should have been my lifelong companion. Before he died we were about to emigrate to Spain. We had sold our house in England, but when Ed was diagnosed with mesothelioma, we had no option but to move into rented accommodation. It was a terrible shock."

"We are now fighting to secure justice on Ed’s behalf. I cannot believe that Brush had such a poor view of health and safety that they continued to expose my husband to asbestos when they knew of the risks or ought to have known of the risks that were involved."
