BSN North’s launch

The Black Solicitors Network (BSN) is launching its northern branch at Sheffield Hallam University on Monday, March 30, 2009.

The BSN North is inviting potential new members to join them at the event at the Owen Building, City Campus, Sheffield at 5.30pm to 8pm.

The event aims to expand BSN North and is a chance for black solicitors and students to find out more about the BSN and to discuss important issues in the legal profession.

The BSN plans to host a number of networking events throughout the year including workshops, mentoring sessions, careers fairs and providing seminars on legislative matters.

During the launch event delegates will receive updates on the Law Society and the BSN nationally. They will also have the opportunity to gain careers' advice from practitioners.

Speakers will include Cordella Bart-Stewart, national chair of the BSN, Frances Woodhead president of the Sheffield Law Society and Nikki Sharpe joint chair BSN North.

Ms Sharpe of Thompsons Solicitors said: “This is an ideal opportunity for our members to network with professionals within the industry and to find out more about the BSN.

“This new branch of the BSN will ensure the needs of northern members of the organisation are met. It will provide unique networking opportunities and will be the voice of black solicitors in the North.”

The BSN was established in 1995 and aims to be the primary voice of black solicitors in England and Wales. It has over 5,000 members and represents solicitors, registered European lawyers, trainee solicitors and student members of the Law Society. It also welcomes members from across the cultural and diversity spectrum.

Solicitor members range from sole practitioners, to partners in large city commercial firms and local authority heads of departments.

The event, which is free, will be held on Monday, March 30 at 5.30pm at the Owen Building, City Campus, Sheffield Hallam University.
