Delivery driver’s successful asbestosis claim
Diagnosed with asbestosis
A former delivery driver has received £17,500 in compensation after he was diagnosed with asbestosis.The 75-year-old from Leeds was diagnosed with asbestosis in June 2008 after years of difficulty breathing.
Asbestosis is a condition which normally affects people who have been exposed to a lot of asbestos over a long period of time. It can cause progressive breathlessness and disability.
It is also associated with a greatly increased risk of lung cancer and the fatal asbestos tumour, mesothelioma.
Exposed to asbestos while working
The granddad was exposed to asbestos while working as a driver for W Madden Insulation Limited from 1958 until 1962.
The company supplied asbestos products which he was responsible for delivering. On occasions he removed asbestos from buildings and was regularly exposed to asbestos dust in the work place.
He later left the company and worked as a driver for a number of different employers before becoming a garage supervisor. He took early retirement in 1999 because of a chronic heart condition.
Health has been affected by asbestos
He decided to claim compensation after a friend said he should contact Thompsons Solicitors.
