Bid to trace cancer victim’s co-workers
Did you work with Edward Anglesey during the 1960's or 1970's?
The widow of a cancer victim is urging his former work colleagues to come forward with information about his exposure to asbestos.Edward Anglesey, 77, died of asbestos related lung cancer in October 2008. The former labourer worked for numerous companies in the Merseyside area including McIvor & Sons based in Cleveland Street, Birkenhead from 1945 to 1949 where he made asbestos mats. He later went on to become a plumber’s mate.
From 1951 he worked in a number of labouring jobs for shipyards in Birkenhead including Cammell Lairds & Co, Grayson Rollo & Clover and Alfred Holt & Co. A full list of the companies he worked for is below.
Asbestos related lung cancer
Before he died Mr Anglesey felt strongly about proving who was responsible for his condition and was concerned about providing for his wife’s future.
His daughter, Sue, said: “My dad used to return home from work covered in dust and my mum used to make him stand outside and shake it off before he could come in the house. When he was diagnosed with lung cancer there was no doubt in his mind that it was caused by asbestos.”
The family wish anyone who worked with Mr Anglesey at any time, but particularly at McIvor & Sons during the period from 1945 to 1949, to come forward to speak to Thompsons. They are interested in any information about the working environment during the time he was employed.
Please contact Thompsons Solicitors with any information
Joanne Candlish of Thompsons Solicitors said: “Asbestos-related diseases will cause 10,000 deaths a year by 2010 and is already the biggest industrial killer of all time. It is important that we trace Edward Anglesey’s co-workers, so that we can advise his family. Mr Anglesey has left behind a devastated widow who would very much appreciate any information that his former workmates are able to provide.”
