Mesothelioma victim’s search for asbestos exposure

Diagnosed with Mesothelioma

A cancer sufferer’s family is searching for information about her exposure to asbestos after she was diagnosed with mesothelioma.

Doris Fryer, 88, from Hampshire, but now living in sheltered accommodation in Southampton, was diagnosed with the cancer of the lining of the lung in November 2007.

Mesothelioma is caused by exposure to asbestos and it can lie dormant for more than 30 years. There is no cure for the disease and sufferers often die within months of diagnosis.

Doris, who has two children, a step daughter, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren instructed asbestos claims experts Thompsons Solicitors for advice about compensation.

Did you work for Pirelli between 1967 and 1980?

Doris believes there were a number of different areas where she has been in contact with asbestos and would like more information on her time at Pirelli General Cable Works.

Doris worked as a clerk for Pirelli from 1967 to 1980. She worked in the company’s Eastleigh premises, based on Leigh Lane and on the Southampton site based at West Quay.

Doris and her family would like to hear from anyone who worked at Pirelli in Eastleigh and Southampton to help build up an accurate picture of her working conditions.

Doris’ daughter, Dorothy Hughes from Bournemouth said: “The family was devastated when mum was diagnosed with mesothelioma. We had no idea what it was at first and found it hard to believe she could be ill from something she was exposed to so long ago.

“It is important to her and her family to hear from anyone who can help them understand the origins of her dreadful illness.”

Exposed to Asbestos at Work

John Hall at Thompsons Solicitors added: “Mrs Fryer was exposed to asbestos many years ago and it is important we build up a picture of her time at Pirelli.

“The family would like to hear from anyone who has information about the working environment at Pirelli, in particular from those who worked at the Southampton site during 1967 to 1980.

Anyone who has any information should contact John Hall on 08000 224 224.
